MANILA – Who are you to tell us what do do?
This was Liberal Party (LP) president Sen. Francis Pangilinan’s remark addressed to Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III after the latter urged the opposition party to “denounce” the impeachment complaint case filed against the President.
“Pimentel et al. stripped us of our committee chairmanships for not toeing the admin line on extrajudicial killings, the Marcos burial, the Lascañas hearing and the BI hearings and then he expects us to denounce the impeachment proceedings to prove to him we aren’t behind the filing of the complaint?” Pangilinan on Tuesday said in a statement.
The LP leader also said that Pimentel, a party mate of President Rodrigo Duterte in the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, is not the only elected senator.
He also denied being behind the move to oust the former mayor of Davao City.
“Hindi kami ang nasa likod nung impeachment complaint ngunit hindi rin kami mga tutang sunod-sunuran,” Pangilinan said.
Pimentel last Monday challenged the opposition LP to condemn the move to impeach Duterte.
Duterte’s first impeachment complaint was filed last week by Magdalo Party-list representative Gary Alejano. He accused the President of committing “culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.”
“All of a sudden, Duterte is a basic problem of the country kaya agree sila sa impeachment? Walang ganunan,” Pimentel was quoted in an interview./PN
