BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to conduct a re-survey of public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in this city from September 8 to 20.
Mayor Greg Gasataya disclosed the plan during a press conference yesterday, August 18, at the Bacolod City Government Center.
He said the re-survey, to be carried out by the LTFRB central office with support from the city government, aims to determine the number of vehicles needed for each route and assess the possibility of opening new ones.
The initiative was discussed in a recent meeting between city officials led by Gasataya and representatives from the LTFRB central and regional offices.
“The survey will also include a transfer plan for operators who may be allowed to move to other routes if there is already an oversupply in their current one,” Gasataya explained.
Records show that in 2018, before the implementation of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), there were 3,747 traditional (unconsolidated) jeepneys registered in Bacolod.
As of March this year, 615 modernized units and 1,266 consolidated traditional units were operating in the city.
At present, Bacolod has 24 routes under the LPTRP. However, authorities noted that some traditional PUJs continue to operate without franchises after failing to consolidate./PN
