MANILA – The Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates dented on the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers’ untarnished record with a 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 22-20, 15-10 win during the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday night at the San Juan Arena.
Cherilyn Sindayen led the way with 16 points, including 15 attacks and 8 excellent receptions, for the Lady Pirates, which moved closer to second place in the standings with a 3-1 win-loss slate.
La Rainne Fabay chipped in 14 markers, while Czarina Orros and Christine Miralles contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Lady Pirates, which also got 17 digs from Patrice Inton.
After splitting the first four sets, the Lady Blazers broke away from a close fifth to build a 10-8 lead following an ace by Chelsea Santilan. The Lady Pirates then forced errors on the Lady Blazers to tie the count.
There was no stopping the Lady Pirates in pulling off the upset win following conversions from Sindayen and Fabay, before closing the match with a powerful hit from Miralles.
“Malakas yung dalawang gitna nila. So, ang pinractice namin ng pinractice sa Benilde is yung blocking namin,” said Sindayen. “Nagulat nga ako kasi hindi ko naman nakikita yun depensa namin sa training.”
Jeanette Panaga topscored with 18 points, 16 coming from spikes, while Ranya Musa pulled off 11 points for the defending champion Lady Blazers, which slid down to 4-1./PN
