ILOILO City – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog plans to overhaul the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO).
“We will look into giving the TMTRO a professional look. This is necessary so it could gain respect among motorists and the general public. The reform can start with the people on the job,” said Mabilog in his Sunday radio program “Ang Haligi sang Banwa.”
For starters, he is seeking a review of TMTRO’s roster of traffic aides.
Mabilog plans a retraining of personnel and review of traffic rules and ordinances.
“Regular training seminars for traffic aides will sharpen their skills in traffic flow management and enforcement. We should keep in mind that traffic aides are our ambassadors to the public,” said Mabilog.
There may also be an age limit for traffic aides, he added.
At present, TMTRO has traffic aides beyond the age of 50
Mabilog said these traffic aides are better detailed in the TMTRO office.
“We will also invest in their uniforms, including raincoats during rainy days. Traffic aides must be in their proper uniform all the time,” he stressed.
The TMTRO is now under the newly created Public Safety Department of the city government./PN
