BACOLOD City – The 7-year-old son of a councilor of Pototan, Iloilo was killed while nine others were injured after a branch of a Mahogany tree fell down the vehicle they were riding.
Kent Marion Peñaflorida was on board a Toyota Fortuner with plate No. YP 6278 with his father Councilor Kent Roger, 34, mother Maureen, 35, and siblings Keif, 15, Kyrie, 5, and Kayden, 2, when the incident happened around 1:25 p.m. on Saturday.
The other passengers were the 48-year-old Sonie Hugo, the 8-year-old Gaile Hugo, April Caro, 19, and Rose Cadanguin, 22.
Kent Roger was driving the vehicle. They were bound for Campuestuhan Highland Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, police said.
The incident happened on Alangilan Road in front of the Bacolod Boy’s Home for the Orphaned and the Abandoned in Barangay Granada.
The victims were all brought to The Doctor’s Hospital in the city where attending physician Dr. Isa Calipusan pronounced Kent Marlon “dead on arrival” around 1:56 p.m. on the same day.
The nine others were currently under treatment as of this writing.
According to Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 5 commander, Kent Marlon suffered from depressed skull fracture, which caused his death./PN
