A WEEK ago, a spate of hoax bomb threats spread across Western Visayas schools and forcing evacuations, class suspensions, and heightened police deployment as authorities scramble to trace the source of the messages.
So far, the police have only arrested one student — a minor caught red-handed forwarding a screenshot of a previous bomb threat to his school. Beyond that, nothing truly substantive has turned up.
This, of course, has fueled all sorts of speculation about the possible ulterior motives behind these hoax threats, with some fingers pointing toward the usual suspects who make a living disrupting the country’s already fragile status quo.
I’m just curious: Considering the logistics and manpower required to plant actual explosives, one wonders if we’re really dealing with a deranged individual who achieves his own twisted gratification every time his threats generate media mileage.
The good news, at least, is that in all the schools that received these threats, police found no explosives or anything remotely connected to one.
Still, whether hoax or not, these bomb threats are causing panic and stretching government resources and manpower — creating an unsafe street environment, the perfect scenario for anarchy, and exactly the kind of instability that benefits those who want the state to “wither away,” especially now when corruption issues in the 2025 GAA (General Appropriations Act) national budget are under intense scrutiny.
Here’s another cringe-worthy moment: Raoul Manuel, former Kabataan Party-list representative under the Makabayan bloc, is blaming the government for these incidents, alleging that its intention is to derail their upcoming rallies.
Raoul, baby, it’s getting more and more absurd.
As the late Joma Sison openly declared, groups such as the Makabayan Bloc and Kabataan Party-list join elections as part of the broader revolutionary framework — not as independent reformist bodies.
In short: undermining the government using government resources.
And speaking of rallies, the Trillion-Peso March movement will hold nationwide anti-corruption protests on Nov. 30.
The Trillion-Peso March, spearheaded by the Church Leaders Council for National Transformation and backed by over 80 civil groups, describes the campaign as a moral struggle against corruption.
Meanwhile, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan chair Teodoro “Teddy” Casiño said in an interview that there are ongoing plans to hold another massive protest against corruption this month.
“There are suggestions that aside from the one on Nov. 30, another big centralized rally should also be held this month. So these are the things being discussed now. The various sectors are also preparing their own mass actions, which we are encouraging because of what we are seeing.”
From how things are shaping up, the November 30 rally seems to be an all-comers event — and it appears the Makabayan bloc and its allies will not miss the chance to advance their own agenda while appearing to support the people’s fight against massive corruption in the 2025 GAA national budget.
Take note of the CPP-NPA-NDF’s dual political strategy: the simultaneous pursuit of armed struggle and electoral participation through its legal “patriotic and democratic” organizations.
The Makabayan bloc and its party-lists participate in the democratic process — including rallies — as part of the broader revolutionary framework, not as independent reformist entities.
Meaning, the revolutionary underground movement led by the CPP-NPA-NDF and the Makabayan bloc that operates openly under the 1987 Constitution form a crucial component of the CPP-NPA-NDF’s revolutionary objectives. It is a tactical adaptation — a calculated maneuver to reach and mobilize the masses in pursuit of the “withering away” of the state.
So if the November 30 nationwide protest creates the “perfect storm” — total anarchy in the streets leading to a critical mass — the Frappuccino- and salted-caramel-latte–infused “useful idiots” will wake up to Marco Valbuena sending out press releases straight from Malacañang./PN
