KALIBO, Aklan – Tricycle operators and drivers in mainland Malay, Aklan are pushing for fare increase.
Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Jupiter Aelred Gallenero said the Malay Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association sought fare hike due to the increase in the prices of gasoline and motor spare parts.
A public hearing will be scheduled to give the riding public the chance to weigh in the additional tricycle fee ranging from P2 to P5, Gallenero said.
SB member Frolibar Bautista said they “would hear first from the riding public to express their views on the proposed fare [hike] of the transport group.”
If approved, the fare increase will affect 14 barangays in Malay, a first-class municipality.
These barangays are Poblacion, Caticlan, Argao, Cogon, Motag, Cubay Sur, Cubay Norte, Napaan, Nabaoy, Naasog, Balusbos, Cabulihan, Dumlog, and Sambiray.
Gallenero said in 2011, the tricycle fare in Malay was raised to help tricycle drivers and operators cope with rising prices of fuel and motor spare parts.
The new Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law imposes excise tax on fuel.
Gasoline price is expected to increase by P2.97 per liter once the old stocks are consumed, according to an advisory of the Department of Energy. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
