BORACAY – Malaysians ranked fifth among foreigners in terms of the highest number of arrivals in Boracay for the first half of the year, records from the Department of Tourism (DOT) showed.

Kristoffer Leo Vellete, officer-in-charge of DOT Boracay, said the island resort hosted a total of 11,097 Malaysians from January to June this year.

“Boracay remains as the No. 1 preferred destination of Malaysians as per Malaysian Travel Association and Tours,” he said.

Vallete said the average Malaysian arrival before only reached 3,000.

The increase is attributed to the tourism road show conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry and the island’s private sectors in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, he added.

“We are expecting to hit the 2 million tourist arrival target or even surpass it at the end of the year,” Vallete said
A total of 1,107,167 tourists have already visited Boracay from January to June of this year. (PNA)
