BACOLOD City – A mall contractor denied giving bribe money to Office of the Building Official (OBO) personnel here.
Claims in text messages that circulated last week that some OBO engineers received P1.5 million were not true, it said.
“Ngaa mahatag man ko P1.5 million man (Why would I give out P1.5 million)?” said Reynaldo Tenedero, Bon Builders Corp.’s project-in-charge for CityMall.
One of the texts sent to journalists stated that OBO head Isidro Sun Jr. issued a “fake temporary occupancy permit” and that “some engineers” received a “P1.5-million bribe for the opening of CityMall on Nov. 8.”
Another text message stated Tenedero and another companion gave the money to Sun and some OBO engineers.
Tenedero was puzzled. He claimed he did not know the people mentioned in the text messages. They were the ones who should be asked, he said. Their transaction with the OBO was legal, he stressed.
Panay News is withholding the names of the alleged engineers named in the text messages pending verification and their side.
As for the alleged “fake temporary occupancy permit,” Tenedero said theirs was genuine and they received it on Nov. 9.
“We have an approved and genuine occupancy permit,” he stressed.
Tenedero said he is open to any investigation.
City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan urged whoever sent the text messages to come out in the open and file a formal complaint.
Sun also welcomed any investigation.
He explained that the OBO issued CityMall a Certificate of Occupancy after Tenedero filed an affidavit of undertaking on Nov. 8 promising to complete all construction deficiencies in 30 days./PN
