ILOILO City – A man was found dead hours after he jumped into the flood control in Barangay Buhang, Jaro district yesterday morning, August 2.

The body of an unidentified man was recovered around 4:30 p.m. also in the flood control by the rescuers.

Authorities said the victim was estimated to be around 5’5” tall and in his late 20s.

In a Panay News interview, barangay kagawad Eugenio Salvacion of Buhang said no one recognized the victim, leading authorities to suspect that he might not be a resident of Jaro.

“It was around 7:45 a.m. when it was reported to us that a man jumped from the bridge. No one knew him; he was of average height and appeared to be around 27 years old,” Salvacion said.

Raymond Dequiña, a security guard stationed near the bridge, also told Panay News that he witnessed the man, wearing white t-shirt and shorts, intentionally dived headfirst into the flood control.

He added that the man managed to swim briefly before he disappeared underwater./PN
