ILOILO – A New Year celebration turned fatal in Barangay Bagongbong, Lambunao town, as a man was hacked to death by a relative during an alcohol-fueled argument early on January 1, 2025.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Joffrey Lego Vicente, was celebrating with family members, including the suspect, 24-year-old Mar Dave Lego, a resident of Barangay Punta Tulay, Valderrama, Antique.
According to Police Major Roy Tayona, chief of the Lambunao municipal police station, the group had been drinking when an argument broke out between Vicente and Lego at around 4 a.m.
The heated dispute escalated, and Lego allegedly attacked Vicente with a machete.
The victim sustained fatal injuries to his head, face, and arms. The suspect fled the scene with the weapon and remains at large.
Authorities have launched a hot pursuit operation to apprehend Lego. Investigators are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward./PN
