ILOILO City – A 57-year-old man who was trying to pacify a fight between two groups was shot in Arevalo district around 2:40 a.m. on Monday, August 19.
Anthony Milliondaga, a resident of the district’s Project 2, Barangay Sooc, sustained a wound on his left thigh. He was brought to Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.
According to the Arevalo police station, the victim was on his way to a store to buy cigarettes when he passed by the two groups of men who were in the middle of a heated altercation and hurling empty bottles at each other.
Concerned for their safety, police said Milliondaga intervened in an attempt to stop the fight. However, minutes later, a gunshot was heard, hitting the victim.
Police officers led by Executive Master Sergeant Mark Olano immediately responded to the crime scene.
At around 6 a.m., police arrested two suspects identified as 48-year-old Angelo Carman and 31-year-old Harris Poe, both residents of Project 6, Barangay Sooc.
The police added that based on a footage from a closed-circuit television camera, Carman was the one who fired the gun that hit the victim.
As of this writing, the police were preparing to file attempted homicide charges against the suspects who were detained at the Arevalo police station./PN
