BACOLOD City – A man sustained multiple gunshot wounds after being shot by an unidentified assailant in Purok Mahiliugyon, Barangay 35 here on Wednesday afternoon, July 23.
Police Lieutenant Marbert Veloso, commander of the Bacolod City Police Station 1, said authorities immediately responded to the shooting incident involving the victim, identified only by his alias “Jayjay,” a resident of the said barangay.
Initial investigation revealed that Jayjay was riding his motorcycle without a helmet when the suspect — whose face was concealed by a helmet — allegedly shot him without warning. The victim quickly ran to a nearby house for safety, while the gunman, clad in a black jacket, fled the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing three gunshots. Jayjay sustained wounds to his arm and abdomen.
Responding police officers found the victim conscious and seated despite his injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. As of this writing, he was in stable condition but under close monitoring.
Recovered at the crime scene were several spent bullet casings and a used but unidentified firearm.
Barangay kagawad Herbert Baker confirmed that Jayjay had previously been reported multiple times for alleged theft.
As of press time, Police Station 1 continued to investigate the motive behind the shooting and was pursuing leads to identify and locate the suspect./PN
