ILOILO City – A 59-year-old man in Barangay Lantagan, Carles, Iloilo was hospitalized for a gunshot wound in his back.
Pascual Rosario was shot on Dec. 20. He was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center.
The police identified a suspect – Rosario’s brother-in-law Joseph Almada, 51. He was detained at the Carles police station.
Land dispute triggered the shooting, according to Senior Inspector Marius Amar, municipal police chief.
The shooting happened around 6 a.m. Rosario was walking home.
It was the barangay officials of Lantagan that arrested Almada. They turned him over to responding policemen.
Almada denied shooting Rosario. He also said he was with his wife looking for fish when barangay officials came over and accused him of attacking his brother-in-law.
“I never shot him. I’m innocent,” Almada told Panay News in an interview.
Senior Inspector Amar, however, said they have witnesses against Almada./PN
