BORACAY – Employees of the local government of Malay were directed to undergo a mandatory drug test.
The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) directive covers all municipal hall officials and employees and all officials in the 17 barangays, according to SB member Dante Pagsuguiron.
Pagsuguiron said the initiative was their response to the national government’s call to eradicate illegal drugs in the Philippines.
Pagsuguiron said they were just waiting for the Office of the Mayor to implement the mandate.
Meanwhile the SB member said he will also push for mandatory drug testing among organizations and cooperatives accredited by the municipal government.
Aside from supporting the government’s antidrug campaign, the mandatory drug testing also aims to clear the name of the local government following a report that an employee was involved in drugs, Pagsuguiron said.
Those who will test positive for drug use will face suspension and referred to the proper authorities. (PNA)
