BACOLOD City – The temporary location for Manokan Country tenants is now open at the North Wing of SM City Bacolod’s Parking Hub.
City Legal Officer Atty. Joseph Chiu yesterday said that the tenants were cooperative and were looking forward to resuming regular business at the temporary location just across the original Manokan site.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez shared on his Facebook page photos of him at the temporary site.
“Bukas na ang temporary site sang aton Manokan Country sa SM. Bag-o man ang lugar, pero nagapabilin gyapon ang manamit nga sabor sang Bacolod chicken inasal,” the mayor said.
The city’s Public Information Office, for its part, asked the public t for continued support to the world-renowned chicken inasal, a comfort food for most Bacolodnons.
“The site is being improved to cater to a wider clientele and to showcase this beloved dish even more,” it added.
Meanwhile, Editha Sacro, president of the Manokan Country Association, said there will be a simultaneous grilling at the temporary location and old structure.
“We still operate at the old structure because of a very small area here [temporary site]. And the city government has yet to install the long span canopy or tents along Fr. Ferrero Street as additional space for Manokan tenants,”
The City Legal Office on Wednesday, January 29, started demolishing illegal structures to pave the way for a redevelopment project by SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI).
SPHI leased the 16,875-square meter city government-owned property covered by Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT) Nos. T-55865 and T-55866 in Barangay 10 and in Barangay 12 where the original Manokan Country is situated.
The city government has committed to the SPHI to totally clear the redevelopment site from illegal structures, including the Manokan Country, by next week./PN
