BACOLOD City – Are Marawi City evacuees now in Negros Island Region?
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is validating the report of one local radio station saying Maranaos from Marawi City have started to arrive here.
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, BCPO acting director, immediately instructed yesterday morning his police station chiefs to confirm and validate the report.
“Closely coordinate with Muslim leaders in your area for monitoring purposes,” Wanky told the station commanders.
He also directed all police stations to submit results of action every hour.
In an interview with a radio station on Thursday, Moneb Khali, spokesperson of the Maranao Group in this city, said hundreds of Maranaos from Marawi City are already seeking refuge in Bacolod.
The Maranaos reportedly arrived this week through a roll-on/roll-off vessel.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the report needs validation.
He added that the city is willing to help anybody as part of its moral obligation.
Wanky also advised Superintendent Noel Polines, spokesperson of BCPO, to tap the media for public awareness.
As of this writing, BCPO has not yet confirmed the presence of Maranaos in the city./PN
