BACOLOD City – “Not that painful but very irritating.”
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. likened an incident of theft or robbery to an ant bite.
“Isa lang ka insidente tapat gid kita,” he said.
Even though he claimed that the spate of theft and robbery incidents has not yet reached an “alarming stage,” Marañon appealed to the city officials and the police to address the issue.
According to him, another incident of these crimes will put the city’s image in a bad light.
Earlier, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved a resolution urging the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to intensify its operations against these crimes.
In response, Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, BCPO director, instructed the 10 police station commanders in the city to review their anticrime strategies.
Enhanced police visibility, regular checkpoints and deploying officers to crime-prone areas were the measures the BCPO has taken.
The police stations of neighboring cities of Silay and Talisay, which these theft and robbery incidents are also rampant, coordinated with the BCPO.
Wanky said the notorious Arnold “Aki” Cuadra robbery group was behind the crimes./PN
