MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named two members of an independent commission that will wield sweeping powers to investigate alleged anomalies in flood-control and other infrastructure projects carried out nationwide over the past decade.
Malacañang on Saturday announced that former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson and SGV Country Managing Partner Rossana Fajardo will sit on the three-member panel. Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong will serve as adviser.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the body will be chaired by another appointee to be named by the President “in the coming days.”
Under Marcos’ executive order, the commission has the authority to subpoena individuals, compel the production of contracts and bank documents, and gather evidence against government officials, employees, and private individuals suspected of anomalies, irregularities, or misuse of funds in infrastructure projects.
It is mandated to “hear, investigate, receive, gather, and evaluate evidence, intelligence reports, and information” either through complaints or on its own initiative.
The President earlier clarified that no politicians will be included in the commission, stressing that he prefers “lawyers and career investigators” to lead the probe./PN
