MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is spearheading efforts to upscale artificial intelligence (AI) training across the country, aiming to boost AI literacy and prepare both students and workers for an increasingly digital, AI-powered economy, Malacañang announced.
In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President recently convened with the Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) Education and Jobs Sector Group to strengthen initiatives that integrate AI education into the country’s workforce development strategy.
“Makakatulong ang upscaling initiative gamit ang AI upang mapalawig ang AI literacy sa bansa,” said Castro.
She emphasized that the President’s push for AI upskilling is not only meant to improve digital competencies but also to build local capacity in developing AI systems — not just using them.
“Ihahanda rin ang mga empleyado para sa isang AI-powered future at palalakasin ang kapasidad ng bansa hindi lang sa paggamit kung hindi sa paggawa ng AI systems,” she added.
Beyond AI upskilling, the administration is also intensifying efforts to enhance student work immersion programs, aiming to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.
The PSAC reported a total of 4,657 on-the-spot hires from job fairs conducted during Labor Day and Independence Day, highlighting the importance of industry-academia partnerships in employment generation.
The council also presented a roadmap for enterprise-based education and AI training, which seeks to ensure that the Filipino youth are adequately equipped for future demands.
“Katuwang ang private sector, patuloy lang ang trabaho at aksiyon ng pamahalaan para makamit ang development at economic goals ng bansa,” Castro said./PN
