MassKara bags ‘best foreign group’ award in South Korea

BACOLOD City – The MassKara Festival dancers were declared the “best foreign group” at the 2019 Daegu Colorful Festival in Daegu City, South Korea on Sunday, May 5.

The MassKara contingent bested 21 other groups in the foreign category and took home 7-million Korean won or P310,000 prize money.

Councilor Em Ang, chairwomen of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Tourism, led the MassKara Festival delegation composed of 23 members.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia meanwhile lauded the victory of the MassKara delegation.

“I congratulate our MassKara dancers and choreographers for this recent feat. They are our tourism treasure,” said Leonardia.

He added MassKara’s victory further proves Bacolodnon dancers are indeed “world-class” and of “export quality” as they are in demand internationally.

Last February, Daegu City Mayor Kwon Youngjin invited the MassKara dancers to join the 2019 Daegu Colorful Festival.

This year’s festival included international teams from Japan, China, Russia, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

There are around 5,000 participants who joined the festivity making it as the Asia’s biggest street parade./PN
