ILOILO City – Incoming city mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu is set to reorganize the city hall’s executive support team, signaling a governance reset that emphasizes merit-based assignments and alignment with her administration’s goals.
As part of the ongoing transition, Treñas-Chu confirmed that executive assistants (EAs) appointed under the outgoing administration of her father, Mayor Jerry Treñas, will undergo a performance and competency review to determine appropriate reassignment.
“This isn’t just about change for the sake of change,” Treñas-Chu said. “We are assessing where each EA can best contribute, based on their skills and experience. It’s about putting the right people in the right positions.”
While some assistants may remain in their current roles, others could be reassigned within the city government or even endorsed for posts in the national government, depending on their suitability.
The incoming mayor emphasized the need for a core team that reflects her leadership vision. “What matters most is that those who work with me share a deep passion for public service and a commitment to efficient governance,” she said.
Her father recently vowed not to interfere in her administration.
“She is ready to lead. She has a master’s degree in management and the heart to serve. I am confident she will continue and even improve the programs we started,” said Treñas, who is stepping down after decades of public service.
Although he will not hold any formal or salaried position in the new administration, the veteran mayor said he is willing to serve as a political adviser — strictly in an informal capacity — if requested.
“I will not interfere. I will just be here to advise if she needs help,” he clarified. “This will allow her to have full independence in her decisions and governance.”
