MANILA – Filipino boxer Milan Melindo is more than ready for his International Boxing Federation (IBF) interim light flyweight match against Thai boxer Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr. in Pinoy Pride 39 on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental native said he has prepared hard for his clash with Sakkreerin as this could be his last chance to fight for a world boxing championship.
“Madami tayong paghahandang ginawa para sa laban na ito. Madami tayong in-improve sa ating mga galaw,” Melindo said. “Ayaw ko lang magpaapekto sa pressure pero gagawin ko ang lahat ng makakaya ko para manalo.”
“Saka excited din ako kasi first time ko lalaban para sa isang world championship dito sa Cebu,” said Melindo.
This will be Melindo’s third try for a world championship after failing against Mexican boxers Juan Francisco Estrada for the WBO and WBA flyweight belt and Javier Mendoza for the IBF light flyweight belt.
“Gusto ko patunayan sa mga nagdududa sa kakayahan ko na kaya kong maging world champion,” Melindo said. “Inspirasyon ko iyong mga puna ng bashers para pag igihan pa ang paghahanda ko.”
The 28-year-old will be parading an impressive 34-2-0 win-loss-draw ring record, including 12 knockout wins. He is also on a two-game winning run against Mexicans Victor Olivo and Maximino Flores.
On the other hand the 23-year-old Sakkreerin has a 31-4-1 win-loss-draw slate, with 16 stoppage wins. This will be also the Thai boxer’s third fight in the year after winning against Filipino Lester Abutan and Indonesian Stevanus Nana Bau./PN
