Meralco forces do-or-die in PBA Govs’ Cup semis

MANILA – Meralco Bolts stayed alive in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals via a 95-83 Game 4 victory over TNT KaTropa last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Allen Durham tallied 36 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, while Baser Amer and Chris Newsome contributed 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

After tying the best-of-five semifinals series at 2-2, the Bolts and the KaTropa will figure in a do-or-die Game 5 on Monday night.

Down by as much as 13 points early in the first period, the Bolts slowly clawed its way back behind Durham, Newsome and rookie Kier John Quinto to take a 51-45 halftime lead.

The Bolts were on top by eight early in the third period before the KaTropa managed to cut it to 64-67. However, baskets from Durham and Amer gave the Meralco an 87-75 lead.

TNT, though, did not easily give up. They cut the deficit to 82-89. But Meralco came up with a free throw and a basket from Durham and a triple from Amer to seal the victory.

For the KaTropa, KJ McDaniels finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, as Jeth Troy Rosario and Jayson Castro added 15 and 14 markers, respectively./PN
