BACOLOD City – The P15-million Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) in Negros Occidental was inaugurated yesterday, February 6.
The inauguration of the state-of-the-art facility located at Technological University of the Philippines Visayas (TUP Visayas) campus in Talisay City, marks a crucial step towards strengthening the Philippines’ position in the global metals and engineering landscape and ensuring sustainable economic growth for Western Visayas.
The center provides advanced equipment, technical expertise, and collaborative opportunities to bolster the metals and engineering industries in the region. It aims to raise awareness about the role of metals and engineering in fostering innovation, driving regional economic growth, and supporting local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The MEIC will also serve as a hub for research and development, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and nurturing a culture of innovation among future generations of engineers, according to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Engr. Reynaldo Ramos, TUP president, said this momentous occasion is a testament to the unwavering support of the DOST in strengthening research and development ecosystems across the country, particularly at TUP Visayas.
“The MEIC represents a vital investment in the future of the metals and engineering industries, equipping our region with cutting-edge technology, expert knowledge, and collaborative opportunities that will drive economic growth and industrial competitiveness,” he added./PN
