CAPIZ β This province has recorded its first confirmed measles-rubella case this year.
Dr. Ramon Alex T. Nolasco, Provincial Health Officer II, yesterday said the case was verified through the measles-rubella Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies test conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), with results forwarded by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 on Monday, February 3.
Data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed that the patient is a one-year-old male from Barangay Tanque, Roxas City.
The patient has received appropriate medical care and is currently recovering, according to the PHO.
The case has also been coordinated with the Roxas City Government.
βActive case finding is ongoing, and measures are being implemented to address gaps in immunization coverage, including defaulter tracking and the intensification of routine immunization services,β said Nolasco.
Coordination with all 16 municipalities across the province has also been initiated to facilitate a province-wide response.
Nolasco urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspected cases to barangay health workers or local health offices.
Parents are advised to seek medical attention if their children experience fever and rash, accompanied by any of the following symptoms: cough, conjunctivitis, or coryza.
Furthermore, vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles.
βWe strongly encourage parents and guardians to have their eligible children vaccinated at the nearest local health unit. Through collective vigilance and cooperation, we can safeguard the health and well-being of all Capiznons,β the provincial health officer added./PN
