Metro-wide liquor ban during storms mulled

ILOILO City – When the next typhoon strikes, the city government may likely impose a metro-wide liquor ban.

The dispensing of alcoholic drinks would be prohibited until the typhoon had left, according to Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

This would be a precautionary measure, said Espinosa, to ensure the people’s safety. He cited fatal drowning cases in other parts of the country when typhoon strikes.

“Bal-an mo kon hubog ka abi mo si Superman ka, basi lakton mo ang tubig,” said Espinosa.

To effect the liquor ban, the mayor said, an executive order from his office would suffice.

He assured the public the liquor ban during a typhoon would be lifted after the weather disturbance had left.

I will seek advice from the city disaster management council when would be the right time to order a liquor ban. I must know first the situation on the ground such as which areas are flooded or hit by storm surges,” said Espinosa./PN
