BACOLOD City — A 46-year-old manager of a microfinance institution was found dead inside a room at their office along Quezon Street in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on August 10, 2026.
The name of the company was withheld, as police identified the victim only by the alias “Efren.” He was married and a resident of Lambunao, Iloilo.
According to the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, personnel were alerted at around 7:42 a.m. through a 911 call reporting a dead person inside the establishment.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was discovered lying on his bed by an accounting officer, identified by the alias “Mylen,” when she arrived at the office for work at around 6 a.m.
Police said the victim had a history of diabetes and was reportedly taking insulin twice a day.
Investigators found no apparent signs of foul play, violence or external injuries on the victim’s body. The room was also found in order, with no immediate indication that another person had harmed him.
Based on the initial investigation, police said the death appeared to have been due to natural causes. However, the official cause of death remains subject to medical examination.
Police also coordinated with the Municipal Health Office for the official declaration of death and the conduct of a post-mortem examination.
