BACOLOD City – Councilors urged police and city hall enforcers to catch vandals when they least expect the authorities to be around.
Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and City Legal Office Enforcement Unit personnel may be deployed to the streets from 12 midnight to 5 a.m. to enforce City Ordinance No. 534, series of 2011, or the Anti-Vandalism Ordinance of 2011, the Sangguniang Panlungsod said.
The regular enforcement of the ordinance during the day has not deterred violators, according to a city council resolution authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor and approved on Aug. 30.
“At present, many establishments and buildings, walls, rollup doors, and passageways are vandalized with so many markings and unpleasant drawings that become eyesores,” said Verdeflor.
According to the councilor, she learned that violators are active when no police and enforcement officers are around to round up or apprehend them, usually between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting BCPO director, said they filed a vandalism charge against the 19-year-old Gerard Daza before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Aug. 30.
Police Station 1 officers arrested Daza – a resident of Barangay Zone 3, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental – on Aug. 29 in Barangay 12.
Another charge, for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, was filed against Daza for possessing plastic packs of suspected marijuana, Wanky said./PN
