MANILA – Mighty Sports-Philippines leaned on Mikey Williams’s torrid shooting as they cruised past Beirut Sports Club with a 91-77 victory in the 31st Dubai International Basketball Championship on Wednesday at Dubai, UAE.

The Filipino-American floor general did most of the damage in the second half with 22 points, his 18 coming from long-bomb conversions, for the Philippine ball club to sweep all four games of the elimination round.

It was in the third quarter that Mighty Sports got a huge offensive lift from Williams who drained 11 points out of his total, establishing a clear 78-61 advantage.

Beirut made their one last breath in the final quarter after they trimmed the score deficit to 10 points at 68-78, but the big baskets from the Philippine ball club iced the victory thereafter.

Puerto Rican reinforcement Renaldo Balkman contributed 20 points, McKenzie Moore and Jamie Malonzo added 14 and 10 markers each, while former Gilas Pilipinas center Andray Blatche had a near triple-double of 12 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists for the victors.

Meanwhile, Jerom Johnson bannered the Lebanese team with 30 points in the losing effort./PN
