MANILA – The lack of contingency plans is the reason for Manila Water Company’s water supply crisis, a group said Thursday.
“Ang problemang nangyari, sinasabi nating management kasi noong nasira ‘yung Cardona [Water Treatment Plant], sana meron silang ibang paraan na pinag-isipan. Kulang ang back-up. Kung mahusay ka na manager, marami kang back-up,” Movement for Water Security chairperson Ernesto Ordoñez said in an interview.
Manila Water’s Cardona Water Treatment Plant was delayed due to some issues with its design. It was constructed to cover the water supply in several areas in Rizal.
Its delay worsened the Manila Water crisis, according to its officials.
Manila Water has been implementing several water service interruptions in east zone areas to make an equitable supply of water for their consumers.
Ordoñez said that the alternative water sources that have been suggested to improve the water supply are expensive. He said there are easier and less expensive ways to develop water management.
“Merong paraan na hindi magastos…May madaling paraan para gumawa ng tubig. Ang problema: Alam ba nila?” he said.
Ordoñez said his group will present their ideas to water officials soon.
He also expressed his support for the executive order that President Rodrigo Duterte will sign to address the water crisis. (GMA News)
