BACOLOD City – Two fishermen from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental survived nearly a week adrift at sea.
Alexander Alagao, 73, and Rico Noguia, 53, were rescued off the coast of Siocon town in Zamboanga del Norte yesterday morning.
According to the Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO), Alagao and Noguia had a fishing trip on Feb. 18 onboard their fishing boat F/B Best Friend.
But they went missing the next day.
The DRRMO and the Philippine Coast Guard Sipalay substation conducted a search and rescue operation.
Dionilo Bogtae, DRRMO head, said Siocon town authorities informed him of the fishermen’s whereabouts.
“Their fishing vessel had an engine trouble and they were unable to return home,” Bogtae said.
The two men spent the past days adrift in the Sulu Sea before sea currents brought them near Siocon.
Arrangements are now being made for them to return home./PN
