BACOLOD City – This city is planning to form an Animal Welfare Taskforce to address the health and wellness of animals, especially dogs.
City officials and animal advocates convened last week and discussed programs for animal welfare.
They also tackled how to improve the plight of the 50 dogs at the Bacolod City Pound in Barangay 35.
These dogs were supposed to be euthanized but this was put on hold following the outcry of animal advocates.
In the meeting, the officials and advocates called for an “effective coordination” between local government units and non-government organizations.
Under City Ordinance 184, if an owner fails to redeem his impounded dog for 10 days, the animal will be terminated or subject to adoption.
The city has yet to confirm the schedule of the mass euthanasia./PN
