ILOILO City — A barangay tanod and his wife were apprehended after yielding over P1 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Molo district on Wednesday afternoon, May 6.
Operatives from the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Police Station 4 conducted the sting at approximately 4:15 p.m. in Zone 3, Barangay San Juan.
The suspects identified as aliases “Walter,” 53, a tanod, and “Era,” 52, were both identified as high-value individuals.
Seized from them were eight transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 150 grams and valued at P1,020,000, buy-bust money, and non-drug-related items.
Police alleged the couple had been operating within the city and neighboring towns.
They have a history of drug-related and illegal firearm cases dating back to 2018. They were previously released in 2019 through plea bargaining and probation, police added.
Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, director of Police Regional Office 6, commended the team for preventing the large volume of narcotics from reaching the streets.
“Had these dangerous substances not been seized, more lives, especially among our youth, could have been destroyed,” Ligan said. “We remain committed to intensifying our campaign to protect the people and ensure safer communities.”
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged with violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
