BACOLOD City — A 50-year-old fisherman was hospitalized after being stabbed during a late-night altercation in Purok 4, Barangay Asia, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on May 3.
According to the Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m., but authorities were only alerted at approximately 5:30 a.m. the following day after a barangay kagawad reported the crime.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was walking home when he encountered the suspect, identified by the alias “Lolong,” 45, a fellow fisherman and resident of the same barangay. Police said that without clear provocation, the suspect allegedly struck the victim on the head with an undetermined object.
Despite the initial assault, the victim managed to reach his home and retrieve a bolo. However, upon returning to the scene — approximately 15 meters from his home — the suspect reportedly confronted him again and stabbed him in the left side of the abdomen.
The victim was rushed to the Hinoba-an District Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to a medical facility in Kabankalan City for further care.
Following a pursuit operation, the suspect was apprehended and subsequently turned over to the Hinoba-an MPS by a barangay tanod for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate charges. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
