ILOILO City — A 44-year-old room boy died after suffering a medical emergency inside a lodging house in Barangay Cochero, Molo, early Tuesday morning, October 13.

Police identified the victim as alias Albert, a resident of North Baluarte, Molo, who worked as a room boy at another establishment.

Police Capt. Ryan Christ Inot, chief of the Molo Police Station, said initial investigation found no indication of foul play, with the victim’s medical history and statements from his family pointing to a possible medical cause of death.

Inot said the victim had a history of stroke and heart problems and had previously suffered another attack.

According to police, Albert arrived at the lodging house shortly after 1 a.m. with a male co-worker and two female companions. The group rented separate rooms for a short-time stay.

At around 2 a.m., the two women checked out and left the establishment, while Albert and his co-worker remained in their respective rooms.

At about 5 a.m., the co-worker woke up and knocked on Albert’s door to inform him that he was leaving for work. When Albert did not respond, the co-worker sought assistance from the lodging house staff.

Upon opening the room, the staff found Albert unresponsive and struggling to breathe and call for help.

Emergency responders were summoned and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Inot said investigators inspected the room and found no signs of a struggle or forced entry.

The victim’s wife also informed police of his pre-existing medical conditions and believed that his death was due to natural causes.

Police said the investigation initially found no evidence of foul play. The exact medical cause of death, however, was not independently confirmed in the initial report./PN
