BACOLOD City — Police have arrested two men in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old woman whose body was found inside a sack at a gamefowl farm in Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on October 13.
Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) Director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales identified the suspects as Rene Boy, 44, of Barangay Canlandog, Murcia, and Arnold, 34, of Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City.
The victim, identified as alias Jenalyn, reportedly worked as a laundry worker at the gamefowl farm, where she was temporarily staying.
Reales said investigators from the Talisay City Police Station arrested the two suspects, who allegedly admitted their involvement in the killing during questioning.
Based on the initial investigation, the suspects allegedly killed the victim on October 8 by striking her with a piece of hardwood before placing her body inside a sack and disposing of it.
Her body was discovered at around 7 p.m. on October 13.
Reales said one of the suspects initially reported discovering the victim’s body but was later identified as allegedly involved in the crime.
Investigators identified the alleged motive as the victim’s refusal to lend money to the suspects.
Scene of the Crime Operatives processed two locations — the area where the body was found and the gamefowl farm where the killing allegedly occurred.
A piece of hardwood believed to have been used in the attack was recovered for documentation and forensic examination.
Reales declared the case closed following the arrest of the suspects but said investigators were continuing procedures to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and determine each suspect’s participation.
He said police were considering filing murder charges against the suspects. However, a possible charge of rape with homicide would depend on the results of the autopsy and other forensic examinations.
According to Reales, the suspects allegedly told investigators that they had raped the victim. Police have requested an autopsy to establish the cause of death and determine whether she was sexually assaulted.
Reales commended Talisay City police investigators for identifying and apprehending the suspects.
The two men remain in police custody while investigators prepare the necessary documents for the filing of criminal charges.
The PRO-NIR assured the public that the investigation would proceed in accordance with established legal procedures.
The suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court./PN
