ILOILO City – Bruises were what a welder from Zone 2, Barangay San Juan, Molo district sustained after quarreling with a neighbor over access to a deep well.
Their fight ended with him getting attacked by the neighbor and her relatives, the 62-year-old Juancho Perales told the police.
Perales said he removed the rope tied to a bamboo gate as he opened it to get to a deep well at around 12:10 p.m. on March 16 but the 30-year-old Leonibeth Golez told him not to.
Perales told Golez, “Imo na di lugar haw (Do you own this place)?” Golez then grabbed a bamboo pole and struck him several times but missed, Perales claimed.
This prompted Perales to retaliate by hitting Golez with a bamboo slat he used to carry water gallons.
Golez’s father, Boy, arrived and intervened. He held Perales’ arms to his back, allowing the Golezes’ relatives to take turns in mauling him until a concerned citizen pacified them, said the complainant.
The police report stated that Perales sustained hematoma on the body.
The Golezes cannot be reached for comment as of this writing.
Police were referring the dispute to the barangay lupon./PN
