BACOLOD City – The city government has allocated P1.5 million for the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program that now covers a second batch of drug surrenderees.
City Anti-Drug Abuse Council secretariat Elizabeth Caumban said there are about 200 drug surrenderees who are currently undergoing rehabilitation in the city.
The rehabilitation program began February and is expected to end this July.
Last year, 105 out of 3,911 drug surrenderees in Bacolod underwent rehabilitation as the first batch.
Caumban said 35 of them were classified as “reformists,”who availed themselves of the “after care” program of the Department of Social Services and Development.
She added that they are conducting sessions with different modules every Thursday for the second batch of surrenderees.
These sessions are done in collaboration with faith-based organizations, a team of nurses and social workers, and two police officers.
Caumban stressed that the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils helped them convince drug personalities to turn themselves in to the police and undergo rehabilitation./PN
