ILOILO City – Councilor Armand Parcon has proposed more incentives to centenarians.
A P50,000 cash incentive and plaque of recognition would be a fitting tribute, he said.
“They spent their lifetime contributing to nation-building,” stressed Parcon as he introduced a proposed ordinance for his plan.
The centenarians’ longevity must be recognized in the face of increasing deaths in the country, he added.
Parcon’s proposed city government incentives for the centenarians is an addition to the “centenarian gift” of P100,000 from the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Living a hundred years old is a rarity, said the councilor. It is a milestone worth celebrating, he stressed.
Parcon also observed that maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle has become a challenge for citizens regardless of age.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country currently has 4,728 centenarians, with Iloilo City having 19 living centenarians./PN
