MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) earmarked P1.8 billion for a three to four-year rehabilitation and expansion programs in Iloilo City.

Focus of the twin programs: to upgrade all “poor” facilities and equipment of the former distribution utility (DU).

Stressed Engr. Edwin Montemayor, head of MORE Power’s Network Operations Department (NetOps), the five sub-stations really need (immediate) upgrade.

“They are in ‘poor’ state right now,” added Montemayor.

The lack of forecasting and periodic maintenance caused their current status, addendumed Leomel Tambanillo, chief of the firm’s distribution and planning design.

MORE Power will also endeavor major upgrade on poles, lines, meters, among others.

It will also get rid of the “spaghetti” wires in cooperation with the other utilities.

Likewise, it will address the “low voltage” concern of almost 30 percent of the 62,000 Ilonggo consumers.

Low voltage consumers, explained Tambanillo, are those using either undersized wires or overloaded transformers or a combination of both.

Both resulted to “poor quality” connections, he added.

As to the unscheduled power interruption(s), said Tambanillo, public should expect such “as this is part and parcel of our ongoing rehabilitation works.”

Rest assured that, said Tambanillo, all dysfunctional lines, equipment and facilities of the former DU shall be corrected in due time.

“Basically, MORE Power’s response and trouble-shooting teams are working 24/7 to address all concerns by the consumers.”/PN
