ILOILO City – A total of 25 families, comprising 43 individuals, were displaced after a fire razed several houses and other structures in Barangay Muelle Loney, City Proper district early Monday morning, July 25.
Authorities said the blaze broke out at around 4 a.m., destroying 11 houses and leaving four other structures partially damaged.
The fire allegedly originated from a boarding house, reportedly caused by a plugged-in electric fan left by a tenant, according to a DYRP Life Radio Iloilo report.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Denmark Macoco, chief arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City, however stated that they have yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze as the investigation remained ongoing as of press time.
The BFP estimated the total structural damage at around P232,000. Also, no injuries have been reported so far.
Meanwhile, the 43 affected individuals are currently taking temporary shelter at the Barangay Muelle Loney covered court.
According to the resident, personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office immediately responded to the site to assess the damage and facilitate the distribution of relief assistance./PN
