KALIBO, Aklan – And all they could say was “sorry.”
Two 17-year-old male residents of Barangay Andagao were charged with murder in what appeared to be indiscriminate attacks of a computer shop customer and a student in the village on Sunday.
Mark Bel “Alas” Donieto was detained in the lockup cell of the municipal police station while Randell Dave “Kiwit” Borga was hauled to the Aklan Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Barangay Nalook.
Armed with knives, the suspects entered BFF Internet Café on Roxas Avenue Extension, Barangay Andagao around 10:08 p.m. on Sunday and stood behind Lester Radin, 21, of Barangay Napnot, Madalag, who was playing a computer game, police said.
Donieto slashed Radin’s throat and, along with Borga, hurriedly walked away, police said, citing a security camera footage that captured the incident.
Radin was taken to the Aklan Cooperative Mission Hospital, also in Barangay Andagao. He was expected to recover.
Outside the computer shop, Borga stabbed Eril Gabriel Perucho, 19, of Barangay Union, Nabas, who was walking on the street, police said.
Perucho was taken to the Saint Gabriel Medical Center in Barangay Poblacion.
The third year architecture student of the Aklan State University’s College of Industrial Technology died on Monday morning. He had a stab wound on the back.
It appeared the attacks were random, police said. And the suspects’ statements may have just confirmed the police’s observation.
“We don’t know the victims. We never got into a fight them. We were drunk,” they told the police in the dialect after their arrest. “We apologized to the victims and their families for what we did.”
It turned out Borga already had a record.
“Kiwit has always given us a headache,” police said. “He was involved in thieveries when he was still 14 or 15 years old. He was previously detained in the ARC but later released.”
During inquest proceedings on Tuesday, the prosecutor recommended a P120,000 bail for Donieto and none for Borga. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
