Nadine talks about her controversial ABS-CBN Ball outfit: ‘It wasn’t comfy’

AS the first Filipina celebrity ambassador of an international footwear brand, Nadine Lustre said her newest endorsement is perfect for her edgy street fashion style.

“I’m a sneakerhead. I love wearing sneakers but at the same time I love being fashionable. So before I would wear boots and heels going out. I love going out. I love hanging out with my friends. I love dressing up. So I have to look good all the time. Can you imagine partying all night with my friends, of course music, it’s such a hassle wearing heels the whole night. I’m just really glad that the D’Lites are here to just be super comfortable and fashionable at the same time. Like I actually wear it when I go out now,” she said during the Skechers X Nadine Lustre event held last Oct. 4 in Taguig City.

During the recent ABS-CBN Ball, the 24-year-old artist surprised her fans by opting for an unconventional kind of formal wear.

“My outfit was actually my idea. It wasn’t comfy (laughs). That was actually seven kilos heavy. That dress was really heavy. It was so hard walking around in that dress. I had a lot of fun. it was for a good cause, going there, attending and spreading awareness to everyone that we’re doing this for the kids of Bantay Bata so that was good. But like being in that dress the whole night it was the most difficult probably. Parang it’s the same experience that I had when I was wearing a wedding dress the whole day for On the Wings of Love before. it was so heavy, so hot, you couldn’t move. I didn’t want to stand up to get food. So ang ending, medyo late na nung night na yun, I had to change because I wanted to dance,” she said.

The new Skechers D’Lites celebrity ambassador said she and James Reid actually didn’t mind netizens poking fun at their outfits. “It’s funny. I think that a lot of the Filipino netizens have a good sense of humor. Even I was laughing at the photo. But it’s cool. it’s a really nice outfit. But the outfit was actually my idea. Parang James followed na lang with the concept. I’m not sure if you guys are familiar with FKA Twigs but I listen to her a lot. She’s an artist na medyo weird yung aesthetic niya. Beautiful but very sharp on the edges, something like that. It’s a bit weird lang her fashion sense and her music. I think because I’ve been listening to FKA Twigs a lot, parang the concept kind of came from her and also from watching Drag Race too much (laughs),” she added. (Push)
