BACOLOD City – The New Bacolod Economic Highway is now the Bacolod-Negros Economic Highway.

The change of name was made after Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Negros Occidental, 3rd District) signed an agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Rep. Greg Gasataya (Bacolod City) said the change of name was “necessary” since the highway is expected to contribute to the economic development of not only this city but also the 3rd District of Negros Occidental and other parts of the province.

The first phase of the Economic Highway construction in Barangay Sum-ag (connecting Victorias and Bacolod cities) started in April.

Additional budget for the second phase was already included in the 2018 budget, said Gasataya.

Once the Economic Highway is completed, travel between Victorias and Bacolod will take only 45 minutes.

The highway had a budget of P4.8 billion for its five-year construction from 2017 to 2021./PN
