ILOILO — To strengthen Iloilo’s crab production and reinforce coastal resource management efforts, the Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office – Fisheries Division released 4,896 crab instars in Sitio Looc, Barangay Polopina, Concepcion town.
The instars were produced by the Provincial Agriculture’s Blue Swimming Crab Hatchery at Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) in Concepcion, a facility that continues to play a vital role in the province’s push for sustainable crab population growth.
Officials said the initiative forms part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to revitalize fisheries resources and expand livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.
According to the Iloilo provincial government, the December 3 activity aligned with its development framework, the Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo (MoRProGRes Iloilo) — aimed at “driving productivity, resilience, and growth across our fisheries sector.”
The crab-seeding effort is among several resource enhancement programs being implemented to support fisherfolk and ensure long-term ecological balance in Northern Iloilo’s coastal waters./PN
