BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government are filling in 1,600 positions to reduce the number of casual and contractual employees.
Currently capitol employs more than 700 casual and contractual workers.
“They will be absorbed. They are priority for regularization,” said Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Salvador Escalante.
“The governor (Alfredo Marañon Jr.) wants to have no more contractual and job-orders once the provincial government is fully reorganized,” said the chairman of the Provincial Board committee on finance.
Capitol aims to minimize the number of contractual workers by January next year, but Escalante clarified that “the goal is to totally eliminate [them].”
But Escalante warned the contractual workers that becoming a regular provincial government employee will not be easy.
“The governor is very strict,” he said. “If you want to be hired, you should take a written examination [administered] by the Human Resources and Management Office.”
Being a professional is not enough, and having a “political backer” does not necessarily help, said the Board member.
“The Civil Service Commission has mandated the hiring departments of local government units to have their own hiring or selection process,” Escalante said./PN
