BACOLOD City – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Negros Occidental allotted P1.5 million to programs for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The budget will be divided into three portions: P203,000 will be used to buy wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and other assistive devices; P351,800 for capacity-building and skills training; and P350,000 for livelihood program facilities.
The province has 20,735 registered PWDs, PSWDO head Elena Serenias said.
Government officials also urged PWDs to assert their rights.
Establishments must have at least one percent of PWDs in their workforce.
“Five PWDs are presently employed by the provincial government,” Serenias said.
The 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 17 to 23 focuses on the rights of PWDs. (PNA)
