BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental extended a total of P10 million to 20 villages in the towns of Calatrava and Don Salvador Benedicto to improve their nutrition programs for children.

Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, said yesterday morning that in general the nutritional status of Negros children aged 0 to 59 months old improved.

This was the result of the meeting with the Negros Occidental Nutrition Alliance (NONA) in December 2022, he said.

They wanted to validate the nutrition concerns of the localities.

“Initially 20 barangays were identified to avail themselves of barangay-based nutrition programs and NONA. The Provincial Planning and Development Office and the Provincial Health Office will give them technical support,” Diaz said.

Each barangay received P500,000, according to Diaz, and the P10-million fund came from the provincial government’s savings from programs and projects for 2022 which were not implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic and other reasons./PN
