BACOLOD City – The National Food Authority (NFA) assured that Negros Occidental has enough rice supply for the coming lean months.
Provincial Manager Marianito Bejemino said their warehouses have around 90,000 sacks of locally produced rice.
Rice stocks from Panay Island also enter the province, Bejemino added.
Because there is plenty of commercial rice, local traders have a hard time selling their rice stocks. This can lead to oversupply, especially since the harvest season is near, Bejemino said.
The NFA resupplied rice in Ilog town and San Carlos City after the attack of black bugs in southern Negros.
With regard to old rice stocks mixed with new ones, Bejemino said this is difficult to detect, especially if the new and the old stocks look the same.
Moreover, unscrupulous traders label the sacks wrong, he said.
Still, Bejemino encouraged the public to report any trading irregularity to his office./PN
